Objectives
Main Objectives of the Office
* To effectively and continuously carry out regulation, inspection, and monitoring of food hygiene and quality at various stages of the food chain in accordance with the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2081, under the guidance of the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control.
* To support the system of supplying clean and quality feed by regulating the hygiene and quality of feed products in accordance with the Feed Act, 2033.
* To effectively implement the Food Act and the Feed Act by providing laboratory analysis of available food and feed samples in Karnali Province and delivering simple, fast, and efficient analysis services as per service recipients’ demands.
* To conduct regular inspection and monitoring of food and feed industries, bring industries within the scope of licensing, and make the processes of recommending establishment, issuing licenses, and renewing licenses of food/feed industries more convenient and effective.
* To inspect and monitor food markets, hotels/restaurants/canteens/snack houses, and sweet shops, and to collect samples in order to maintain hygiene and quality of food products.
* To support food processing by conducting skill-based and nutrition-related training programs related to food processing, preservation, and storage.
* To conduct training, workshops, and seminar programs to provide food hygiene and quality–related knowledge to food industrialists and businesspersons.
* To take action in accordance with the Food Hygiene and Quality Act or the Feed Act against individuals or firms involved in the production, transportation, and sale/distribution of misleading, substandard, or contaminated food and feed products.
* To conduct public awareness programs related to food hygiene, quality, and nutrition, and to disseminate information and messages through local media with the objective of enhancing awareness among consumers and stakeholders.
* To provide free technical consultation for solving problems of cottage industries and for resolving technical issues encountered during the establishment and operation of agro-based industries.
