The office has the following four sections, and the main functions carried out by these sections are as follows:
Food Hygiene and Quality Regulation Section
The main objective of this section is the implementation of the Food Act/Rules and Feed Act/Rules. The major functions of this section are as follows:
* To conduct or facilitate market monitoring in coordination with various agencies from time to time to ensure effective implementation of the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2081; Food Regulations, 2027; Feed Act, 2033; and Feed Regulations, 2041.
* To collect samples of suspected food and feed products being sold/distributed in the market from time to time through food/feed inspectors and arrange for laboratory analysis.
* To initiate legal procedures in accordance with prevailing acts/rules if laboratory analysis of samples shows adverse results.
* To appropriately address complaints/grievances received from the general consumers in coordination with relevant stakeholders within the framework of prevailing acts/rules.
* To actively work or facilitate coordination with stakeholders during market monitoring targeted at festivals and special occasions held from time to time.
* To maintain records of completed activities.
Food and Feed Laboratory
The main functions of the Food and Feed Laboratory are as follows:
* To analyze samples collected by food/feed inspectors and provide analysis reports.
* To analyze samples received from other offices/organizations and provide analysis reports.
* To periodically check laboratory equipment, maintain records thereof, and inform concerned authorities if any defects are observed in the equipment.
* To maintain records of completed activities.
Food Technology Development and Nutrition Section
The main functions of the Food Technology Development and Nutrition Section are as follows:
* To conduct or facilitate training, workshops, gatherings, and seminar programs approved in the annual program.
* To provide or facilitate technical consultation for food/feed businesses and operations upon request.
* To conduct trial studies, develop innovative food products and technologies, and disseminate information about them.
* To maintain records of completed activities.
Licensing and Administration Section
The main functions of the Licensing and Administration Section are as follows:
* To provide or facilitate recommendations for the establishment of food and feed industries upon request, and to inspect and facilitate the issuance of licenses prior to production.
* To maintain office copies and records of letters received and dispatched daily.
* To properly maintain records of employees’ personal details and performance evaluations.
* To collect and deposit revenue of the office or facilitate the same.
* To provide or facilitate information requested by the department and ministry.
* To submit monthly progress reports to the department within the specified time and maintain records thereof.
* To prepare or facilitate budget formulation for the upcoming fiscal year in coordination with the office and various stakeholders.
* To maintain records of completed activities.
